Eucalyptus essential oil is used for many common conditions, and has an energizing and clarifying aroma.
Many cold and flu preparations such as cough drops, throat lozenges and chest rubs contain eucalyptus. During the Autumn season, 10-12 drops of eucalyptus essential oil may be added to a small bottle of almond or sesame oil for a mentholating chest rub. It can also be applied to the feet on the reflexology points, or to sore aching muscles. Eucalyptus essential oil must be diluted in a plain oil since it is so powerful and medicinal, or it could cause a burning sensation.
Activate Immunity and the Respiratory System
Eucalyptus activates the respiratory and the immune systems, and it revitalizes and energizes the body. For those who find it too strong, it may be blended in small amounts with other essential oils such as lavender, bergamot, lemon and peppermint. A eucalyptus steam may be inhaled by bringing a large pot of water to a boil and safely placing it on the kitchen table over a pot-holder. Just add 6-12 drops each of eucalyptus and peppermint essential oils to the pot, and breathe in the vapors. For a more intense lung treatment, cover the head with a bath towel while leaning over the steam and breathe deeply. But be careful!
